Temple of Neptune

I tried a binaural beats session from this app once before, Didgeridoo Dancers, and was severely disappointed with the experience. No head shift at all. However, seeing that I was totally bored on a Friday night in middle-of-nowhere Kansas, I decided to give it another chance.

So, I prepared the same as always; I lay completely still, flat on my back, with an eye mask blocking out the ambient light and stereo headphones covering my ears. As the sounds began rolling through me, oscillating from one ear to the other, I felt the vibe of a sci-fi movie enveloping my awareness. Rolling, oscillating, a metal ball bouncing through the middle of my brain. After several minutes of this, I started to become a little uncomfortable. Almost as though I was about to get a headache.

Having been through considerably worse side effects from using entheogens, I decided to work through it. So I breathed in and out solidly a few times, attempting to relax into the steadiness of the beats.

The sounds kept vibrating me awkwardly, yet I pushed my concentration away from it. And, instinctively, I tried something that I should’ve been doing from the get-go. Instead of simply laying there passively, hoping that the digital drugs would miraculously get me high, I actively forced myself to let go.

Out, I floated into the abyss of what it is to be me. Authentically me. I no longer perceived my body, only a globe-like essence of myself taking shape around my head. Silently, in my own mind, I began to repeat the mantra, “Om shanti shanti shanti, Om shanti shanti shanti, Om shanti shanti shanti…”

The words ricocheted throughout my soul, slowly, like a beating heart. All the while, my consciousness shrank until it was the size of a golf ball and sat squarely in the middle of my forehead. The spot some would call my third eye.

A blissful feeling overtook me, a vision comparable to an aurora borealis gracing my closed eyelids. I was in awe, still silently chanting “Om shanti shanti shanti” while also adding in a second layer of “I am that, I am that, I am that…”.

Now, I must note, these aren’t usually the mantras I use during meditation. In fact, I have never chanted them. Not even once. So I include them here with a little curiosity. What were the binaural beats bringing out of me? Whatever it was, it felt good :-)

And, as the 20 minute session faded to a close, I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear. After nine failed attempts, I finally got high on digital drugs! Yay!!

To conclude this experience report, it must be said that I didn’t get nearly as high as I would’ve gotten from taking an entheogen. Nonetheless, I felt a definite consciousness shift; one similar to that of deep meditation. And it inspired me! So much so that immediately following this session I listened to another one…

Ecstasy

Since my last I-Doser experience didn’t prove to be too interesting, I held out less hope for this binaural beats session as I slipped on my eye mask and headphones. Then I laid down flat on my bed, a quiet room surrounding me.

The track started with what sounded to me like a trance song I might’ve heard at a rave a decade ago. There was also a muffled moaning coming from a woman, probably something lifted from a porno movie. It made me giggle and feel a little silly. Nevertheless, I tried to relax into the beats pumping in my ears.

I-Doser claimed that the track would make me feel tingly all over, which it did after a while. Although, I also was feeling a bit cold. So who knows if it was actually an effect from the supposed digital drug or just my body’s natural response to the need to heat itself. Along with the tingling came louder moaning from the woman who was obviously having a really good time :-)

Sadly, the digital dose didn’t turn me on in the slightest. The tingly feeling was cool, but I really could’ve done without the porno babe in the background. Onto the next digital experience, I guess…

The Hand of God

I have to say, I had high hopes for this digital dose/binaural beats download. I was prepared, laying flat on my bed with my eye mask blocking out the light. I also was wearing my new headphones, a set recommended on the I-Doser website. I wanted to get this right to ensure that I’d get the full effect.

So I listened as melodic sounds and beats tried to entrance me for the duration of the 15 minute track. It was a little strange, one moment seeming to slow down the tempo and the next increasing. As well, it shifted from angelic qualities to creepy ones.

Sadly, I never experienced the hand of God. I did, however, have one interesting moment as I lay completely still. It was approximately 10 minutes into the dose and I began to feel my consciousness no longer perceiving my extremities. Instead of the normal sensation of my hands, I felt oceanic waves of energy. I wish I would’ve stayed still though, because I moved which caused the feeling to rapidly dissipate. Soon after, a male voice started chanting an unknown language in my right ear. It was a bit disturbing. Then it was over. A disappointment…
